Spring Break:
Party Bus, Part 2
Spring Break: March 19 - 25
We were so lucky to have the beautiful blue skies in this season of fake spring!
Summary
It's my little sister's 40th birthday, and we are celebrating with a Party Bus! Our group of 8 visited 4 wineries on March 4, 2023. The second set of wineries was Hawthorne and Bonobo. (The first set is available here.)
The Party Bus is an essential component of the region's wine industry and the tasting room experience. It's Spring Break season, and we left town. Therefore, the rest of the Party Bus OMP March 2023 40th extravaganza is the focus of this week's post.
Hawthorne
Hawthorne was ready for us!
We gravitated naturally to the sunshine and Hawthorne's outdoor wood stove
Hawthorne was our third of 4 stops on OMP. We spent a lot of time outside on the snow-covered patio enjoying the wood stove. At this point in the journey, we are starting to get a little buzzed (reminder - none of us would be driving or taking care of our children even after the party bus tour ended). Some fresh air was just what the doctor ordered. I have been to Hawthorne enough times before to know the wines, and a more reliable review of mine is here - I enjoy Hawthorne's whites and convinced most of our crew to get a glass of the 2018 Barrel Reserve Auxerrois. This grape is getting more attention lately (first discussed here) as wineries seem to be getting more willing to trot out and even celebrate this hard-to-pronounce but well-suited to the NoMI terroir grape.
Things are starting to be less wine, more woo
Bento boxes with a smorgasbord of charcuterie, pickles, Perfect Bars, Trader Joe's dill pickle peanuts, & almonds for survival
Bonobo
Bonobo was our fourth stop! Trial tastings are in compostable vessels, and how funny this background view looks like we are at church
So. Much. Love. For this Birthday girl. Cheers! And especially for bringing this group of awesome women together.
Yup, this again - woo girl group picture in front of the dormant, snowy vines. You can see a bit of West Bay in the background and more clearly, Leelanau Peninsula.
Later in this journey, I will give this view its due, as truly special even competing in a field where literally all of these wineries have amazing views!
Hold me closer, Tony Danza - here's some of the fit for public aftermath, and proof we didn't just woo & booze - we made a watercolor pennant for her, and my daughter joined us in the morning with her magnetic faerires and love for her auntie on this milestone <3
