Blustone Vineyards

Week 25 - June 18-24, 2023

Something to Love

I came here on a beautiful summer day with a friend who works in the industry (not here). I loved that when she mentioned this, we were given an immediate discount on our glasses and later, a free tasting. Free stuff is great, but it meant more than that, as hospitality that treats the whole area as a team effort across both AVAs and the outliers, promoting the brand more like the Kentucky Bourbon Trail than any individual business, is good for the region and good for all of us.

Summary

One of the few tasting rooms to feature a modern, clean aesthetic in the architecture, interior design, and vibe, Blustone is inspired by the rare event of finding the area's famed "Leland Blue" stone during a beach walk. The vineyard views here are truly panoramic with almost a true 360* of vista.Β

Two Wines

Pinot Blanc Reserve πŸ‡πŸ‡

Pinot Noir Rose πŸ‡πŸ‡

I got to taste way more than two wines because of the industry treatment and the ability to share. These two were my and my companion's favorites.

TCWY Wine Ratings:

Something to Do

I came here on a day off, the newest US Federal Holiday, Juneteenth. If you are white, please use this day to learn something about Black culture, especially the role that systemic racism has played in establishing our country and how it persists in agriculture, viticulture, wine, and anywhere else. Show up. If you can't show up, Read up. If you can't Read up, Pay up. If you can't Show up, Read up, or Pay up: Shut up. If you are a BIPOC individual, please know that I stand with you and hope you have a chance to do whatever you want on this day.Β

Something to Hope For

There is one thing super awkward about Blustone that I hope will change, which is their intricate and strange rules. You can have a glass of wine on the patio, but not a flight. If you arrive without a reservation, you get greeted with a chilly reception even if the tasting room isn't busy. I am all in on use of technology and creative ways to deal with the staffing shortage all 50+ wineries are dealing with. Treating the people who have bothered to show up like we are doing it wrong isn't it.
